How Online Shopping Has Become the New Window Shopping

Virtually touring each and every aisle in the store!

More and more people are converting to e-platforms for their day to day transactions, be it for utility bills, grocery or high involvement products like apparel or even furniture. Online stores allow users a recce of the product they need on different online stores for as long as they like because no car is losing gas!

Online stores became Life Savers

Online mediums of shopping gained popularity worldwide because of the convenience factor involved. People, especially those working jobs and having tough routines, could have their product delivered at their doorstep without having to go to the store. As the number of online stores grew the competition started to grow as well. There was an increasing need for the players to differentiate themselves from their competitor online stores. Hence brands started providing deals and discounts and not to mention cash on delivery. Some stores also gave an option of return/ exchange of the bought items within a certain timeline.

Window shopping before shopping

Online shopping in Pakistan gained more popularity because of the factors like product reviews and product ratings that enabled the buyers to make an informed decision. This lead to an emergence of a per-shopping trend called the digital window shopping. In this phase the customers are indulged in market survey, product recce, price analysis and product and brand short-listing. This phase is succeeded by the actual purchase.

Why “Genuine Shoppers” end up being “Window Shoppers”!
At times customers go online with an intention to make a purchase rather than just window shop however they end up as a window shopper! Few of the reasons for this are

• high product prices
• tenuous websites where customer fear using their credit cars
• unreasonably high shipping costs
• tiresome check-out process asking a lot of questions to be answered before purchase

Online shopping in Pakistan!

In Pakistan as world over, the trend for online shopping is increasing day by day especially since popular platforms like Daraz.pk and Kaymu.pk started “Black Friday Sales”. What all the online retailers need to do is optimize customer shopping experience at their online shopping stores. Tedious form filling are synonymous to bureaucratic paper work for busy online shoppers.
Retailers must ensure a quick and easy purchase process for their customers so that they don’t abandon their shopping carts! Since the mobile-shopping is increasing worldwide, retailers must ensure their website is compatible with mobile devices.

Lastly the retailers must have a responsive website that may answer any queries that the customers may have and must be easy to navigate upon.
